An automation systems team at ABB contacted us via our website, seeking to develop a critical component—featuring numerous, extremely small holes and a complex structure—for a valve body assembly. The component required dimensional stability during high-speed operation. The client initially experimented with metal but encountered issues with excessive weight and thermal deformation during high-frequency processing. They subsequently proposed switching to high-performance engineering resins but were concerned about maintaining the necessary precision for micro-hole machining.

We then designed specialized tool paths for micro-hole machining and optimized parameters for low-vibration, high-speed cutting, while producing three rounds of prototypes for validation. Ultimately, by optimizing the fixture design and cooling strategy, we successfully achieved consistent, micron-level precision in micro-hole machining.

After evaluating various plastic materials, Sindh Machining selected PEEK CF30. To handle the material's high abrasiveness and complex geometry, the company employed a 5-axis high-speed CNC machining center equipped with specialized, high-hardness PCD (polycrystalline diamond) cutting tools, ensuring micron-level tolerances for intricate internal cavities and labyrinth seal grooves. For critical micro-hole requirements, high-precision drilling was achieved using a specialized microporous machining system; this was complemented by a rigorous multi-stage annealing heat treatment process to eliminate internal stresses, thereby ensuring the valve body maintains exceptional dimensional stability and surface integrity under extreme operating conditions.
